Shipwreck Island

Shipwreck Island Adventures

Shipwreck Island Description

A little ways off the coast is an island some think of as a paradise and others think of as a perilous spit of land. Warm ocean breezes and the gentle waves rolling onto the white sandy beaches surround you in every direction. In the coves and reefs nearby, it's not entirely uncommon to see a meandering sea turtle or a school of brightly colored fish, or the hint of a reclusive mermaid swimming away, always seeming to be just out of the corner of your eye. Yet, it is also a place of terrible squalls and violent storms. It is called Shipwreck Island for a reason, and though it's part of the queendom, it is uninhabited.

Near to this island, in the abyss of the nearby sea, the Council of the Squidheads has become aware of the dangerous situation facing the queendom and are prepared to help. Though they haven't done so in generations, they are preparing to summon a great, terrifying creature from the depths of the sea, far larger and greater than any dragon. Simply called the Judge of the Sea by the squidheads, this creature is said to be large enough to swallow a dragon whole with its shark-like mouth, and it has massive lobster-like claws, a thick crab-like carapice, eight squid-like tentacles, and a gargantuan whale-like body. You'd heard legends from sailors of such a creature, but have you ever talked to a sailor? They all seem at least a bit off.

To summon the Judge of the Sea, the Council of Squidheads needs a pile of treasure, enough to impress the beast. Most valuable to the creature are shells and pearls, so the Council has advised that you gather as many of those as you can. This, however, is a small island and the sea is very deep and vast. The island itself is mostly sand and sparse grass, though a single palm tree, one that will grow glittering, magical coconuts when the full moon rises, grows in the center of the island. Visit the magic coconut tree to obtain the limited magic it produces. Additionally, there are rumors that in times previous, pirates dug a large hole and buried numerous treasures in the northeast corner. A large X made of ship planks marks the spot of this alleged treasure. Visit this part of the island if it is gold you desire. The pirates had to bury it in the northeastern part of the island because the southwest waters have proven perilous to ships. According to legend, no fewer than seven ships have wrecked upon the rocky shallows there and their wreckage provides an abundance of gadgets. Clams are abundant in the northwestern part of the island, as are the birds that feed on them. Pearls are most easily found on this part of the island. And finally, in the southeast corner is a reef called the Mermaid Reef, home not to Mermaids, but to the cooperative Squidheads. Nobody remembers why it's called Mermaid Reef.

Working together, you must collect as many pearls and shells as you can. Every pearl-shell pair a player creates gives you one point token, and is used as an attempt to summon the Judge of the Sea. With the Judge of the Sea on your side, you could lure dragons close to the waters of the ocean where the Judge would emerge and take as many as it can.

As the Pirates of the Baygulf Sea say, "Best of luck to you arrr!"
